Murder Under Cover
by Kate Carlisle

book cover

This is a good book, part of the "Bibliophile Mystery" series. It's about a woman named Brooklyn Wainwright, who restores books as a profession, and is an amateur detective as a hobby. It's not her fault she keeps finding bodies, right? Each mystery keeps you on your toes, and you don't want to put it down until everything comes together at the end.

I really enjoyed reading this book, and look forward to reading other books by Alice Oseman. Her books are really related to the modern day issues and struggles of individuals trying to come out or find their own identity. I would recommend this book for ages 12 and above.

This book is just as amazing as Jamie Sumner's other book, Roll With It. The main character Lou, is taken away from her mother and is placed with her Aunt and Uncle. She has to adjust to new family members, a new school, and making friends. It's extremely difficult for her, but she is able to adjust and have a good time!

Goodbye, Perfect

Goobye, Perfect, was a surprisingly good book. The main author's friend runs away and goes into hiding with her boyfriend, who is also her teacher and twice her age! This is a crazy story that has many twists and turns. In the end they find Bonnie (the friend) and she's taken back home. The thing that surprised me is that the main character and Bonnie aren't friends anymore. But, the main character has new friends and everything works out for her.

Percy Jackson And The Lightning Thief

This book introduces readers such as myself into the world of Greek mythology. I found it really fascinating to hear about different creatures that consisted in these myths. I found myself in a ride of suspense multiple times as I saw the struggles the protagonists have to overcome to succeed. After I finished the book I couldn't wait to read the sequel. I would recommend this book for grades 6-8.

Ten Things I Hate About Me

An amazing book! The main character has two identities (sort of). At home she is Jamilah and at school and other public places she is Jamie. This is because her family is from Lebanon, and she doesn't like how other people are treated for it. It's not that she doesn't like her culture, she said herself that she loves the food, music, etc. So, she pretends to be Jamie to avoid people treating her badly. In the end, she finds the courage to be Jamilah, and to be proud of her culture. A 5-star, must read!

Smile

This is a great book about a girl and her dental problems (also some stuff about school and boys). It's a quick and easy read, so anyone can read it. It's also very relateable since it's about braces and things of that nature. I give this book 5 stars, as well as her other books that she's written. Raina is a very good author.

Hour Of The Bees

I give Hour Of The Bees 3 stars. It was an okay book. The reason I didn't really like it was because it felt like nothing was moving. It felt like we were stuck at the same point in the plot. Nothing exciting was happening. The characters would get up, do their chores, talk about moving, and talk about the Grandpa and how crazy he is. It was like the same thing happened every day! The ending was pretty good though. It was very eventful, dramatic, and heartwarming (that is why it earned 3 stars). Not sure if I would recommend this.

A Mango Shaped Space

This is a great book about a girl who has synesthesia (meaning numbers and letters have colors as well as sounds). It is beautiful how the author describes what Mia, the main character is seeing. It's lovely to watch Mia become so much more comfortable and confident about her synesthesia.
